Tips

Thinking about using a rubric to assess papers for information literacy skills? Here are some recommendations:

  • Go Big! Our assessment was an ambitious snapshot of Information Literacy skills across the curriculum. By taking a look at the big picture, you can learn what part information literacy plays not just in the library, but on campus and throughout the curriculum.

  • Work with colleagues! Though it may be hard to come to levels of agreement, it pays off. More collaborators spread the work.

  • Invest time! It will take time to reach agreement and to read the papers. However, librarians who participate will gain valuable insight into student performance, the nature of assignments, and the structure of the college curriculum.
