For a list of reliable library and online sources, check out the course research guide: libguides.usu.edu/bus3200

This guide will help you avoid paywalls and less reliable information that you can often run into when searching online. To get back to the guide, either save the link above or look for the "Research Help" link in Canvas.

Here are a few key resources from the guide:

Chart titled "Sales of Snacks in Tunisia"

Euromonitor Passport

Euromonitor Passport is a market research database that is good economy, key business dynamics, and the performance of different industries in a country or region. For example, the chart to the right provides key data about the value of the snack food industry in Tunisia.

Helpful reports and tips for using Passport:

  1. Check out the reports "Business Dynamics," "Economy, Finance, and Trade," and "PEST" to get a deeper understanding of a country. Just search for your country and the name of either report, i.e. "Tunisia Business Dynamics."
  2. Search for your country and a specific industry or product category to find country-specific industry information. Search results are presented in two tabs: Statistics (for data and charts) and Analysis (for written reports).
  3. Take advantage of data tools. Data in the Statistics tab can be downloaded and edited, or modified online, for example by changing the currency type, years included, etc.

Statista

"Leading apps for online food ordering in Brazil in 2021"; iFood 72%, Others 15%, Uber Eats 8%, WhatsApp 5%.

Statista aggregates statistics from various national and international data sources, making it a useful tool for finding things like sales figures, industry forecasts, and survey data related to consumer trends. For example, below is a chart showing the top food delivery apps in Brazil.

Helpful tips for using Statista:

  1. Experiment with broader and narrower keywords. For example, searching "desserts Brazil" will limit your results compared to "food industry Latin America," which might help you understand larger regional trends. Longer reports, like Online Food Delivery in Latin America, will pull together related data for you and can be useful for exploring a region or topic.
  2. Think about related industries and topics that might be relevant to the Ice Cream and Frozen Dessert category. For example, the chart on the left points to food delivery trends that could be relevant to all food products, including ice cream. What other retail and consumer trends might impact sales of ice cream?

Save Your Work!

Note, because library databases are part of the "deep web," you are required to log in for access. For this reason, copy/pasting the URL in from the address bar is NOT a reliable way to get back to the content. Instead, make sure to download, save, or look for a "permalink" option on any reports/articles you find useful. This will ensure that you will be able to get back to the information when you need to read or reference it in the future.
