- Pre-work: Complete Guide on the Side TutorialStudents will complete this tutorial (that can be linked to or embedded in Canvas) prior to their library session. Students can email a completed certificate to themselves to upload in Canvas or email it directly to their instructor.
- Post-work: Watch "GISTS" Reading Strategy VideoThis 4 minute video gives students strategies for quickly scanning an article to determine how, or if, it might be useful to their research. Embed in Canvas.
- Post-Work: Review 2 articles using GISTSStudents will watch the reading strategies video and apply the recommended strategies to scan 2 articles they found in the library that day. Then, they will answer the attached questions about both articles. We recommend having this posted as an assignment in Canvas.

"Narrowing a Topic" Materials for Online Classes
- Narrowing a Topic Canvas Module OutlineThis outlines each piece of the Narrowing a topic module that students will complete.
- Canvas ModuleIn order to have students complete assignments, import this module directly into your Canvas course. This includes both the Narrowing a Topic and Synthesis lesson. We recommend you import this module directly into your Canvas course. See the import package below.
- Narrowing a Topic and Synthesis Export PackageCanvas integration:
1. Click the Canvas Download button above and save the file onto your computer.
2. Within your Canvas course, click "Settings" in the left-hand menu.
3. On the right side of the resulting "Course Details" page, click the "Import Content into this Course" button."
4. Within the "Content Type" drop-down, choose "Canvas Course Export Package."
5. Click the "Choose File" button and select the downloaded Canvas export file on your computer. Click "Open."
6. Next to Content, choose the "All Content" button.
7. Click "Import." It will take a few minutes to upload.
8. When the import process is finished, you will see a green Completed button. At this point, you can go into your course modules and place the tutorial modules at the desired location(s) in your course.
