Research Data Services at USU Libraries: Deposit data

Is USU DigitalCommons the data repository for you?

USU Libraries is pleased to offer data repository services with DigitalCommons as an easy, free-of-charge option for our researchers. However, it might not be the best choice in every use case. First, consider if there is a repository commonly used in your discipline that might bring your data to a wider audience.

While we can accommodate most requests, our service has limitations. We cannot accept:

  • Confidential, sensitive, or private data (such as from human subjects research)
    • Ask us about how USU's ICPSR membership can help you find a home for some types of human subjects research data
  • Datasets with individual file sizes over 10 GB or total collection sizes over 50 GB
  • Data that you hope to update frequently

How to deposit data in USU DigitalCommons

Deposits are made by email at researchdata@usu.edu. Please include the following:

  1. A completed README file in a text file format (.txt). Please make use of our template: https://library.usu.edu/data-management/files/ReadMe_Template.txt
  2. A signed Data Deposit Agreement. You can download the blank form here: https://library.usu.edu/data-management/files/20180321_RepositoryTermsofDeposit.docx
  3. Your dataset file(s). For smaller files, you can attach them to an email, but for large datasets, a shared link to a Box folder is usually best.
