The New York Times Campuswide Access Program

The New York Times is available to all current USU students, staff, faculty, and emeritus faculty via USU Libraries' New York Times Campuswide Access Program.

Important notes:

  • New and existing subscribers have different sign-up processes, explained below
  • USU student access runs through 12/31 of their graduation year
  • USU faculty and staff must renew access every four years

Creating Your NYT Account

To activate or renew your access, please watch this 3 minute video and/or see instructions below:

  1. Go to accessnyt.com
  2. Type and select "Utah State University" - if you are on a mobile device, you will have to scroll down to the correct entry
  3. The instructions differ if you are currently on-campus or off-campus
    1. If you are on-campus, select the word "Here"
    2. If you are off-campus, select the blue box titled "Go" then log in with your USU credentials
  4. Create a NYT account using your USU email address and create a password - we recommend not using your USU password
  5. You can now log into the NYTimes.com website or the NYT App with your NYT Account

If you have an active paid personal subscription to the NYT and you wish to swap to a free USU-provided subscription, you will first need to cancel your personal subscription before you can activate the free USU-provided subscription. You may continue to use the email address and password associated with your cancelled subscription to keep any personalized settings and newsletters. 

To cancel an existing account, please contact New York Times Customer Care:

Please note: Premium apps (Games, Cooking, The Athletic, etc.) are not included in the USU Libraries subscription. You may change your personal NYT subscription to only cover one or more of the premium NYT apps if you wish. Please see the NYT Products and Subscriptions page for more information about premium apps.

Once your personal subscription is cancelled, please do the following:

  1. Go to accessnyt.com
  2. Type and select "Utah State University" - if you are on a mobile device, you will have to scroll down to the correct entry
  3. The instructions differ if you are currently on-campus or off-campus
    1. If you are on-campus, select the word "Here"
    2. If you are off-campus, select the blue box titled "Go" - you will then be prompted to log in with your USU credentials
  4. Below "Create an Account" select "Log In" and use the email and password associated with your now-cancelled personal subscription

If you already have a personal NYT account, but no active subscription, please do the following:

  1. Go to accessnyt.com
  2. Type and select "Utah State University" - if you are on a mobile device, you will have to scroll down to the correct entry
  3. The instructions differ if you are currently on-campus or off-campus
    1. If you are on-campus, select the word "Here"
    2. If you are off-campus, select the blue box titled "Go" - you will then be prompted to log in with your USU credentials
  4. Below "Create an Account" select "Log In" and use the email and password associated with your personal NYT account
