PsycINFO: Home

This guide serves as a tutorial on how to use the database PsycINFO.

Searching in PsycINFO

PsycINFO is a large collection of scholarly articles, trade publications, and dissertations on topics ranging from education to pharmacology.

1. Go to https://library.usu.edu/ and click on "Articles and Databases" under "Find."

2. To quickly search for the PsycINFO database, type it into the search bar or click on the "P" to find it alphabetically.

3. Click on the "PsycINFO via EBSCOhost" link.

4. In the search bars, type in keywords related to your research topic.

Do not type in your entire research question. Break it down into keywords and enter them into the search bars.


5. Below the search bars, review the filters for a way to narrow down results.

6. You can even narrow results to show specific Methodologies or Audience. As seen below.

7. When you're finished adding keywords, click "Search."

8. Related results will populate. Click "All filters" if you want to continue to narrow results.

9. Each source on the results page will have subject terms attached.

Subject terms are descriptive words assigned to an article by a database. They are a set of controlled vocabulary that denote the item's subject or main themes.

Articles with similar themes, or about similar subjects, will be classified together under a very specific subject heading - instead of scattered under multiple different synonyms or searches.


10. To view a source's detail page, click on the title.

11. On the detail page you'll be able to view information about the source like abstract, citing, downloading, and other access information.
