This tutorial will show users how to find resources in UpToDate.

UpToDate

UpToDate is a clinical reference resource designed to provide quick access to synthesized medical information. It offers current, evidence-based, and graded clinical recommendations which are written, reviewed, and continuously updated.

It also includes a drug interaction lookup tool and other pharmaceutical reference information from Lexidrug (formerly known as LexiComp). Mobile apps are available for Apple and Android devices.

USU users must create an UpToDate account to use this resource.

Searching in UpToDate

1. Go to https://library.usu.edu/ and click "Articles & Databases."

2. To quickly find UpToDate in the database list, type it in the search bar or click "U."

3. Click on the "UpToDate" link.

Please note you will have to create a free account in order to access UpToDate.

Once logged in, explore the database for protocols, treatments, drug information, and more.


4. Use the search bar to quickly search for information on a drug or any other topic.

If searching for a drug using the search bar, it will bring up an info box about the drug. Note it may not include drug interaction information.


5. If you aren't sure where to start, check out the "Contents" tab. Here you can check out what's new, changes in the fields, drug information, and topics by specialty.

6. See the image below for an example of a resource.

7. Click the "Drug Interactions" tab to find out if certain medicines have negative interactions.

Know that drugs have individual articles about them that are NOT in the interaction checker.
