Bridging the Gap Conference

Bridging the Gap 2024 event graphic

Bridging the Gap is a conference for Cache Valley high school librarians, media specialists, English, History, and Social Science teachers and library staff from Utah State University Libraries. In support of USU’s land grant distinction, this conference is an opportunity to begin a dialogue with local educators regarding USU Libraries’ resources, while also learning how to better support incoming USU students as they transition from high school to the university. Conference tracks include information literacy, primary sources, and digital resources.

This LibGuide provides access to conference resources, including a digital program, links to presentation slides, and makes associated resources publicly available. Resources from past conference are on the conference archive page.

Conference organizers thank USU Libraries administration and local educators for their participation and support. Graphic Design provided by Shay Larsen, USU Libraries.

Keynote

First-Year Writing Courses and AI Usage

Russ Winn, USU English Department Lecturer

Russ Winn will share his insights from teaching first and second-year writing courses at USU, discussing how students are utilizing AI in their academic endeavors as well as how they should be. He will focus on pedagogical initiatives that emphasize information literacy, research, and writing as the main approaches. In the wake of the advent of commercial LLM use, it’s a brave new world for educators, and teachers need spaces in which to explore and break new ground.
