Uploading Your Video

Interested in uploading your video online? The following platforms can be used:

• Youtube
• Vimeo (free plan available)

Uploading Your Video to the Institutional Repository (IR)

USU has it's own Institutional Repository! You can upload your video and become part of the university's academic record. It will be preserved and accessible to the campus community and beyond. 

To submit your video, you'll need to do the following:

• Fill out a submission form
• Video or audio in one of the following formats for Native Streaming:
  • Video: 3GP, ASX, AVI, F4V, FLV, MKV, MOV, MP4, MPG/MPEG, WMV
  • Audio: AAC, AC3, AIF/AIFF, FLAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, WMA
• For embedded content, the IR accepts YouTube, Facebook, or Vimeo
  • Note: if a video on that platform is taken down or made private, it will not work
• Captions need to be embedded in the video or provided as an .srt or .vtt file
  • This can be done in Adobe Premiere
• Transcriptions are needed for anything with audio
  • These can be PDFs

What is Copyright?

Copyright is designed to give authors an incentive to create original works by affording them a limited-term monopoly on their intellectual creations. 

Copyright is best understood as a suite of five rights:

• The right to reproduce your work
• The right to distribute your work
• The right to create derivatives of your work
• The right to display your work
• The right to perform your work
