Open Educational Resources (OER): OER and Aggie Access

Open educational resources are openly-licensed educational materials without cost or access barriers.

Aggie Access

What is Aggie Access?

Aggie Access provides students taking undergraduate courses (level 0000-5999) with day-one access to all required textbooks each semester for a flat rate of $250 for the Fall, $250 for the Spring, and $150 for the Summer. Student accounts are automatically billed at the start of each semester.

However, students will have the option to purchase their materials individually (A La Carte) or to opt out of Aggie Access entirely.

Why OER is Still Worth It

While Aggie Access offers convenience, it is not your only option, and it might not be the option that saves you the most money. That's where OER comes in.

If you register for courses using Zero Cost Course Materials (ZCCM), including free, high-quality Open Educational Resources (OER), you may be able to opt out of Aggie Access and pay nothing at all for textbooks.

OER are permanently available, unlike Aggie Access materials, which expire at the end of the term.

Just make sure none of your classes require paid courseware, which may limit your ability to fully opt out.

How do I take advantage of the benefits of OER and ZCCM?

To learn how to find and register for ZCCM courses, visit the "Find Courses Using OER" tab on this guide.

OER and Zero Cost Course Materials: What's the Difference?

Zero-cost course materials (ZCCM) refer to any educational resources that are free for students to access, such as library-licensed content, freely available websites, or OER. Open Educational Resources (OER) are a specific type of zero-cost material that are not only free to use but also allow for the 5 R's of OER.
