National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 through October 15 to recognize the histories, cultures, and contributions of American people whose ancestors came from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Spain.
Why does the month begin on September 15?
The day of September 15 is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18.
This month celebrates a large breadth of diverse peoples, cultures, and languages that cannot be singly understood. The ebooks and materials displayed in this guide are just a small selection of perspectives that fall under the Latinx umbrella. They feature just a sampling of Latinx authors, languages, cultures, and perspectives.
