ORCID: Get Started with ORCID

This guide provides and introduction to ORCID iDs and how to get started with ORCID.

Get Started with ORCID

Step One: Register for an ID

1. Go to https://orcid.org and sign up.

2. Add basic information to your ORCID record. We recommend adding the following:

Step Two: Link Your Research

1. Use the Search & Link tool to link your research to your ORCID iD. This is best practice for linking works to your ORCID iD. We recommend three linking options, depending on your discipline and research output types.

  • CrossRef Metadata Search to link research articles and other journal publications
  • Datacite to link datasets, images, and other research outputs
  • MLA International Bibliography to link books and humanities publications
  • Find more information about using the Search & Link tool.

2. If there are additional works you would like to add, you can use the Bibtex Import tool or manually add works to your record.

3. You may also import works to your ORCID record by linking your Scopus Author Profile to ORCID.

Step Three: Use Your ID

Use your ORCID iD across platforms by logging in with ORCID whenever you see the ORCID symbol. This will ensure your grants, publications, and other research outputs are attributed to you and automatically linked to your ORCID record!

You can also use your A number and strong password to sign in to your ORCID record. Learn how to use USU Single-Sign On (SSO) with ORCID.
