Created as a product of student research in association with the History Department to explore the history, impact, and legacy of the women's softball program and Title IX at Utah State University.
In 2022, Dr. Tammy Proctor began teaching HIST 3005: Sports: A Global History. Students explored modern global issues such as economics, nationalism, and social debates through sports, culminating in a public history project about USU’s history that connected broader issues to the Logan campus. In the first year, students explored the legacy of Title IX at Utah State, conducting oral histories with players and coaches from the 1978 national champion volleyball team. In 2023, students explored the years after Title IX through the history of women's basketball at USU.
In 2024, HIST 3005 focused on USU's only back-to-back national titles with the 1980 and 1981 softball teams. This Libguide features their scholarship and oral histories.
