History of Ancient Rome: Finding Books

[HIST|3150|Frances Titchener]

Library Catalogs

Use a library catalog to find books by author, title, or subject. NOTE: Searching by subject requires an understanding of the Library of Congress Subject Headings.  It is often better to first search using keywords first if you do not know the title of a book you are looking for and then narrow your search using the subject headings found in the full catalog record of books that seem to be right on topic.

Tip:

Need a book we don't own?

Use interlibrary services to request books, articles, and more from other libraries.

Note on Book Reviews

Book reviews can be useful to help you boil down or see the flaws in an author's argument. To locate book reviews, search for the title of the book in one of the research databases or full text journal collections on the Finding Articles tab of this guide. JSTOR and Project Muse are particularly useful for finding reviews.
