Aviation Information in Government Documents

USU Library Catalog
The USU Library has a large collection of government documents. The library catalog includes records for government publications 1976-present with incomplete but expanding listing for our pre-1976 publications. Additional databases are necessary to locate documents published before 1976; feel free to ask Government Documents staff for help!

Never hesitate to ask librarians and staff members in the Government Documents office for help finding government publications. It is a large collection with a different system, and they can save you time!

Key Databases

Once you have found some background information on your topic, databases are great place to find articles relating to your topic. Here is a list of the databases that I recommend.

Academic Search Ultimate

This is a multidisciplinary collection of articles from scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers and other sources.
Military and Government Collection
Current news database pertaining to all branches of the military. This database offers a thorough collection of military titles, trade publications, and newsweeklies including cover-to-cover full text for nearly 300 periodicals. The database also includes full text for 245 pamphlets and offers indexing and abstracts for over 350 magazines.
Nexis Uni

Nexis Uni features more than 15,000 news, business and legal sources from LexisNexis including US Supreme Court decisions dating back to 1790.
Hobbies & Crafts Source
This database offers detailed "how-to" instructions and creative ideas to meet the interests of a variety of hobby enthusiasts, with full text magazines and books.
Business Source Premier

A large collection of business information, including articles from scholarly, business and trade publications, SWOT analyses, and book chapters.
Legal Collection
Legal research, primarily in full text.
Google Scholar

Multidisciplinary scholarly search engine. Covers peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts, and articles from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities, and other scholarly organizations. Includes links to USU resources when on campus.
IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL)
Search IEEE publications.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) journals and proceedings back to 1988 as well as IEEE standards are available. In addition, both Spectrum and the Proceedings of the IEEE are also available through this interface. Some journals and proceedings have been digitized back to Volume 1, Issue 1. This is an ongoing process and the date coverage may vary by title.
MasterFILE Complete
MasterFILE Premier provides full text for nearly 1,700 general reference, business, consumer health, general science, and multicultural periodicals. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 2,800 periodicals. Full text goes as far back as 1975, while indexing and abstracts go back even further for a handful of titles. This database is updated daily on EBSCOhost.

Multidisciplinary article database focusing on popular reading (non-scholarly) content. Includes full articles from magazines such as Aviation History, Aviation Week & Space Technology, and Flying.
